AN INTERESTING NICKEL-PLATED .455 WEBLEY 'MKIV' REVOLVER RETAILED BY HOOTON & JONES AND MARKED 'O.S.N. Co. No.79', serial no. 88030,
for the Oriental Steam Navigation Company, late 19th century, with 4in. barrel, integral blade fore-sight, break-open frame with automatic ejecting fluted cylinder, the top-strap signed HOOTON & JONES, 60 DALE ST. LIVERPOOL', the front-strap of grip marked 'O.S.N. Co. No. 79' and chequered hard rubber birdshead grips, retaining much original plated finish except back-strap

Provenance: The Orient Steam Navigation Company, also known as the Orient Line, was a British shipping company with roots going back to the late 18th century. From the early 20th century onwards, an association began with P&O which became 51% shareholder in 1919 and culminated in the Orient Line being totally absorbed into that company in 1966
